The practice of Nature Journaling is a wonderful way to connect with the natural world around you; a chance to slow down, time to observe, listen, and discover. A nature journal is something you can create starting in your own backyard; a record of your local birds and wildlife that visit, the flowers that bloom each year, or a record of your vegetable garden through the seasons.
Free Nature Journaling gatherings
You don’t need any prior experience in art to join in, just an interest in your local natural environments, plants and animals. We meet in the field at various locations around the Hunter region, with people of all ages and abilities. We aim to create a social atmosphere of fun and creativity, bringing nature, art, and our community together.
Our next gathering will be on Friday 25th July, 9:30am at umali barai-ku the Lake Macquarie Landcare & Sustainable Living Centre, 80 Toronto Road, Booragul. The theme for this month is the beauty of symmetry in nature. We’ll be exploring the world of symmetry in butterflies and platypi, and by the end of the session you’ll have an art work creation to take home. All instructions provided. No need to book in, just turn up with your favourite art gear, or you can try our art kits before you buy your own.
We will be meeting on the last Friday of each month at umali barai-ku at 9:30am, and will have gatherings at other locations throughout the year.
Nature Journaling Workshops
We are currently booked out until mid September for our workshops. Please contact me if you have a special request and we’ll do our best to fit you in!
Workshops usually run for 2 hours if you are a school or corporate group, 3 hours for adult community workshops. Workshops are interactive and include facilitation in basic drawing techniques and painting with watercolours. The workshops can be tailored to a local environment, theme or project, or for a particular purpose such as nature connection or team building.
